'My love for animals started at a young age - so I soon spent a lot of time with the horses. Besides animal care, biology has always caught my interest. Although I finished VWO, I noticed that I get more energy from being practical. That is why I chose the higher vocational programme Animal Management, which focuses on working with animals in farms, riding stables, animal clinics and shelters, among others.' she explains.<\/em><\/p>\n

'I moved to Leeuwarden five years ago for my studies, as I am originally from Heerhugowaard. When I saw the NIFA vacancy passing by I immediately became enthusiastic. After an open day I knew for sure, this is a great place! I've been working as Sales Assistant since May. Together with my other colleagues I support customers, help with questions and placing orders, manage the mailbox and take phone calls. 'Chances are you'll get me on the line when you call us,' she laughs. 'But I don't just sit in the office. Over the past few weeks, I've joined my colleagues Corine and Linda on a number of practice days. I find reproduction s\u00faper interesting. It's great to see how our technology can really make a difference here,' says Merel<\/span>. 'At NIFA, I get all-round training so I can discover what suits me best. That way I learn a lot and can find my own direction.'<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

In her spare time, Merel enjoys spending time with her horse. She loves peace, space and nature and especially enjoys it during walks or reading a good book.
