Biosecurity: your safety is important to us!

Why do we act like this?

This approach protects not only our stock but also our customers’ companies. We like to contribute to avoidance of outbreak and minimalize risks for the whole chain.

How do we archieve this?

To ensure the safety of you, your animals, and our products, we are implementing several concrete measures:

  • Safety zones in our warehouse
Our warehouse is divided into 2 different zones. Deliveries or returns arrive in the first zone, not directly in the second zone (where safe stock is located).
  • Active surveillance of animal diseases
When contagious animal diseases are reported in areas where our customers operate, we immediately adjust our logistics. We then ask transporters who physically visit farms to deliver outside the warehouse.
  • Strict visitor registration
All visitors to our company must register in advance.
  • Pre-notification of pick-up orders
Collection is only possible after registration and takes place outside the second zone.
  • Hygiene protocols for delivery
During outbreaks, our delivery vehicle undergoes complete disinfection on every day of use. The driver adheres to established protocols and the vehicle remains outside the biosecure area.
  • We maintain direct lines of communication with veterinarians and actively monitor the NVWA website.
This enables us to stay informed about emerging risks and respond with appropriate measures promptly.

NEW - The optimal transport box on the go!

Why did we develop this?

At NIFA, we reviewed existing systems and thought: this can be improved! In collaboration with one of our partners, we developed the NIFA Climate Transport Box.

Secure & precise temperature

This transport box is equipped with two sensors that accurately monitor when the temperature goes above or below the set value. The temperature can be adjusted between +1 and +40 degrees Celsius and is continuously shown on a digital display. The setting is secured to prevent unauthorized changes. The box has both cooling and heating capabilities.

User-friendly

The box is made of lightweight, durable plastic and has a 35-liter capacity. Its base includes a removable perforated insert, making cleaning and disinfection easy. The unit can be powered via both a 220V outlet and a 12V car connection, making it suitable for mobile use.

Temperature testing & calibration

Before delivery, the box is preset to the customer's desired temperature and tested under various conditions. The customer receives a report detailing the temperature history during the test. NIFA also offers an annual calibration service to ensure continued accuracy.

Sealing system

To further safeguard the contents during transport, NIFA Technologies provides a tamper-evident sealing system. Additionally, we offer temperature loggers to record conditions throughout the journey.

A lifetime of pioneering reproductive technology

Since 1979, Dirk has been a familiar face in our field. “At that time, artificial insemination (A.I.) was only available for cattle. There were only 46 A.I. associations in the Netherlands. I was right in the middle of the sector, exactly when it started to transform,” says Dirk.

“In the 1980s, swine A.I. began to emerge. For NIFA, this represented an entirely new business branch. Driven by curiosity and craftsmanship, I made sure we stayed ahead in development – something that still defines NIFA’s DNA today. Around 1988, embryo transfer in cattle became an important new branch,” Dirk continues. “In the same period, we began an intensive collaboration with IMV France, which in 2010 led to further international development for NIFA and eventually to the acquisition by IMV. Not long after, in 1989, helped with the set up of Embrytec – a revolutionary lab for cattle embryo technology at the time.”

Dirk was also closely involved in equiine A.I., which started to rise in the early 1990s. “Today, around two hundred laboratories – for both fresh and frozen semen – have been set up by NIFA. When setting up an equine A.I. station, it often requires more customization,” he explains.

Dirk remained active at NIFA until 2020 and, over the years, has helped establish numerous labs across Europe and beyond. Notable examples include laboratories for the processing and storage of human donor semen and IVF, as well as the wide implementation of CASA systems within globally operating genetic giants like CRV and TOPIGS. There was also a European collaboration with ST (Sexing Technologies) for the setup of laboratories.

His career is a blueprint of the sector’s growth – from craftsmanship to high-tech equipment in cell biology. Create new life with our technology – precisely what Dirk has been doing for over forty years.

Get to know… Charlène & Stéphanie!

‘We both have a lot of experience in semen analysis and in the reproduction of equine, bovine, porcine and various other species in general,’ says Stéphanie. ‘At IMV, we create innovative, high-quality products, and we support customers in using these products and including them in their processes. We are present in the field to support customers and validate products in real-life conditions. To ensure high quality, we follow a rigorous product validation process in the field.’

How innovative products are developed and field validation works

Stéphanie is primarily involved in the early stages of new product development. She gathers input from the marketing department or generates ideas based on customer feedback. Then, she works on creating a product.

‘R&D is like cooking. To create a new cake recipe (e.g.: a semen preservation medium), we can either rely on existing recipes (e.g.: scientific studies published in journals) or start from scratch. We then seek to improve these recipes by adding or changing ingredients, their qualities and quantities. We also collaborate with research institutes to help us develop even more innovative products,’ explains Charlène.

As an R&D project manager, Stéphanie brings together members from various IMV Technologies departments such as marketing, research and development, supply chain, manufacturing and sales, to build a project team. Together, they work on developing a new idea (e.g., a new semen preservation medium) until proof of concept is achieved. Once this is obtained, field trials are set up with Charlène’s “Field Application” team and partner customers.

‘We set up and rigorously monitor the field validation trials with our partner customers to simulate real conditions of use,’ Charlène explains. ‘Once the protocol is written, we run the trial, collect the data, analyze it, and use the results to produce scientific articles or marketing materials like flyers.’

Field support

Customers occasionally encounter difficulties with a product or process. In such cases, the Field Application team, sometimes supported by R&D staff, visits to assist, identify the problem, and work on finding the root cause.

The problem may be linked to incorrect product usage, poor integration into the process, environmental factors impacting product conditions, lack of employee training, and so on.

Stéphanie and Charlène visiting the Netherlands!

Led by our colleague Corine, Stéphanie and Charlène will visit the Netherlands on October 30 and 31. They’re excited to check in with our customers, with a primary focus on equine applications. They hope to gain inspiration and discuss how reproductive methods differ within the country and between countries, as well as explore how our products can be used in different ways. They’re also eager to learn about new needs that can inspire the development of future products and ideas.
